"Oh the comfort the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words but pour them all right out just as they are, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away."
Dinah Maria (Mulock) Craik (1826-1887)
This quote appears on a card that my mother gave me recently. I love it because it expresses what I most value about a great conversation with a trusted friend. You can be unfiltered, talk from the heart, off the top or your head or even straight from the hip and know they will hear the essence of your meaning, not with judgement or defensiveness, but with an open willingness to understand.
I have recently had the pleasure to work with some incredible people who have that ability to bring trust to their teamwork and it is such a joy.
