The Mediation Process

Chalice Consulting uses a facilitative model of mediation. This is essentially a series of structured conversations, managed by the mediator as a neutral third party, where the people involved are able to discuss their concerns and work together to reach outcomes or agreements that suit their needs and interest. Mediation can be conducted in a formal or informal setting. Participation is voluntary and the discussions and outcomes are confidential.

Dispute assessment (30-50 minutes)
Short initial conversations to establish that mediation is likely to be appropriate, confirm the process and likely costs and collect key contact information. If mediation does not appear to be suitable, other options can be discussed.
This initial telephone consultation is free.
Pre-mediation interviews (50-90 minutes each)
Separate, confidential interviews with each person or group involved, to provide the mediator with background and context about the situation and assist everyone to prepare for mediation.
Preparing for mediation (as required)
Consulting in the lead up to mediation. We are available prior to the mediation to assist all parties as they prepare for mediation. Assisting with referrals for additional advice or support, preparing support people or providing advice on short term conflict management strategies where necessary.
Mediation session (2-4 hours)
The mediation session brings the parties together and uses a guided conversation to:
The mediation processes used by Chalice Consulting comply with the national Mediation Practice Standards and our mediators are nationally accredited.
Chalice Consulting offers mediation by family dispute resolution practitioners accredited under the Family Law (Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners Regulations) 2008 and we are able to issue certificates under section 60I of the Family Law Act 1975.
